When founder Tammy Bowers’ son Lion was born with a rare genetic syndrome and a life-threatening medical condition, she realized that he would never experience the same love and success for the sport of track and field as she did. When he was 3 years old, and barely walking, she reached out to her former track coaches at Brigham Young University with an idea. She wanted to partner with the team and put on an event where kids like Lion could have success in track, even if only for one night.

When Tammy knew she could not do this on her own she reached out to former teammate Marsha Baird. Marsha Baird, a former Olympian, is the partner everyone needs. Together they have been putting on this event since 2013.
